SHA disburses over Sh1.36 billion for healthcare claims for October

The Social Health Authority (SHA) now says it has disbursed over Sh1.36 billion for healthcare claims submitted in October.

The payout represents more than 52 per cent of the total claim value for the month.

SHA CEO Robert Ingasira on Friday disclosed that a total of 217,700 claims, valued at Sh2.6 billion, were submitted by 2,382 hospitals in October. Of these, 53,554 claims have been paid, benefiting 1,195 hospitals.

Speaking on the progress, Ingasira assured that all outstanding payments for October and claims for November would be finalised by the end of next week.

"The remaining 164,146 claims, valued at approximately Sh1.2 billion, are currently undergoing verification," he explained, noting the importance of accuracy and transparency in the claims review process.

The ongoing verification, according to Ingasira includes submissions from 1,187 hospitals, which he says is progressing smoothly.

He encouraged healthcare providers with queries related to claim processing to reach out for support.

"Healthcare providers who have any query related to the October claims processing and payments should contact the nearest SHA branch for assistance, send an email to [email protected], or contact the toll-free number 0800 720 601 for guidance," he stated.

In addition, Ingasira reaffirmed SHA's commitment to fostering open communication with stakeholders, improving turnaround times, and delivering exceptional service.

"As SHA continues to enhance its operational processes, we remain focused on improving turnaround times and delivering excellence in service," he said.

Eliminating corruption

Earlier this week, President William Ruto reiterated that his administration was committed to eradicating corruption and fraud in the country's healthcare system.

Reflecting on past challenges under the now-defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Ruto vowed to ensure accountability in SHA operations.

"There is a lot of fake news and a lot of incorrect information that is out there," he said.

"I want to assure the country that the challenges of fraud and corruption that had bedevilled the NHIF will never be under SHA as long as I'm in charge. It will never happen in our Universal Health Coverage plan," Ruto added.

The President stressed his dedication to transparency, urging Kenyans to have faith in the government's efforts to safeguard healthcare funds.

"I will look the people of Kenya in the eye and tell them there will be no corruption under SHA as long as I'm President," Ruto affirmed.
